Maryland Dept of Public Safety and Correctional Services Case Study
Both vehicles were operated side-by-side for the identical same training events and time. These vehicles were used for all aspects of police emergency/pursuit operations training, including precision driving skills exercises, skid control maneuvers, emergency response and vehicle pursuit exercises within an urban area and open highway courses. Additionally, these vehicles were used to conduct vehicle stops and motor vehicle enforcement techniques training activities.
Each vehicle was operated in the identical same manner except the vehicle equipped with Energy Xtreme Alternative Power Source would have its engine shutdown during the period of time it was in a parked position. For the purposes of this to induce a high electrical draw, emergency lighting equipment on both vehicles remained operational for the entire time the vehicles were being used in the training arena.
The vehicle equipped with the Energy Xtreme Alternative Power Source, allowing continued use/activation of all emergency equipment, without the operation of the vehicle's engine during parked situations, resulted in a fuel savings which provided an 18% increased MPG. Because this evaluation occurred within a “high stress” training environment, an estimated patrol MPG is not possible. But the remarkable note is that with Energy Xtreme’s Alternative Power Source, even in a “high stress” training environment, a significant fuel savings is notable.
